Alex is a Fellow by Special Election in German Studies at St Edmund Hall, and Lecturer in German at Magdalen College and University College (University of Oxford). She teaches German language and literature from the mid-eighteenth to the twenty-first century, translation between German and English, and film studies. Her main research interests lie in twentieth-century literature and visual culture. Her first book,\u00a0<em>Childhood, Memory, and the Nation: Young Lives under Nazism in Contemporary German Culture<\/em>, was published in 2020. In 2022 her book on the White Rose,\u00a0<em>Defying Hitler \u2013 The White Rose Pamphlets\u00a0<\/em>appeared with Bodleian Library Publishing. She received a Teaching Excellence Award from the university\u2019s Humanities Division in June 2019 for her work with students on the White Rose Translation Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>White Rose Project Student Translators<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Every year, we issued a call for translators from among the undergraduate student body at the University of Oxford. The translators worked on texts by and about the White Rose resistance circle.
