Call for Student Writers and Translators <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

In 1943 five students and a professor at Munich University were executed. They were members of The White Rose (\u2018Die Wei\u00dfe Rose\u2019), a group that wrote and distributed pamphlets calling on Germans to resist Hitler. To mark the 80th anniversary of the first White Rose pamphlets, and a new publication<\/a> of the pamphlets in English by Oxford students, this year\u2019s White Rose Project will work on translating the pamphlets into new written forms, such as poetry, song lyrics, and short prose. Students will engage closely with the original pamphlets (in German or English) and, in a series of writing workshops, produce ‘creative translations’: new texts inspired by the White Rose\u2019s texts. There will be an initial meeting in Week 8 Michaelmas Term 2021. Workshops will be held weekly during Hilary Term 2022. Students\u2019 work will be presented at an event in Trinity Term 2022, and published in a zine and on the White Rose Project\u2019s website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project is open to all students in the second year or above of undergraduate study at the University of Oxford. Participants will be able to work in English or<\/em> German. To apply, please complete the application form<\/a>, including a short statement (max. 100 words) outlining why you would like to participate. The deadline is Monday 15 November (Week 6)<\/strong>. You will be notified of the result of the application by Wednesday 24 November (Week 7), and there will be an initial online meeting for participants in Week 8. Former student members of the project are welcome to apply for this year’s round. NB: We aim to hold writing workshops in person in Hilary Term. For this reason Modern Languages students on their Year Abroad are not eligible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
