Printing Slogans at the Bodleian’s Press

On Thursday 7 March, Dr Alex Lloyd and some of the student translators joined Dr Alexandra Franklin at the Bodleian Library’s Bibliographical Press. The students selected phrases from the White Rose leaflets – in German and in their new English translation – and experimented with printing them using some of the historical hand-presses. Slogans included: ‘Freiheit!’, ‘If you know, why don’t you act?’, ‘Die Weiße Rose läßt Euch keine Ruhe!’.

You will be able to see the students’ finished posters, which will form the backdrop to the display ‘White Rose: Writing and Resistance’ at the Proscholium in May 2019. You can see more photographs from our evening printing on Flickr.
